Malik Monk Bolsters 6MOTY Campaign By Etching Name in Kings History

It continues to be a stellar season for the Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk. Despite the team's 96-117 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, the former Kentucky Wildcat managed to keep his foot firmly on the gas as the leader for this year's Sixth Man of the Year award, this time by breaking a historic feat for the franchise.

After Sacramento's most recent matchup vs. the Nuggets, the Kings announced on their Twitter/X account that Monk now sits atop the all-time leader in assists as a reserve during a single season for the Kings, totaling 299 and counting for this year.

It continues to The mark may not reach the prestigious heights of the assist numbers Hall of Fame guards Oscar Robertson or Tiny Archibald generated in their time with the team, but remains an impressive achievement for the seven-year guard nonetheless.

Monk has had a career season wearing the black and purple, posting career-highs in both points (15.0) and assists (5.2) per game. As the numbers tell it, Malik has now reached historic status as one of the better playmakers Sacramento has seen in their time as a franchise throughout his role as the commander of this second unit.

The Kings guard has begun to make a massive name for himself in the Sixth Man of the Year race this year. Monk now leads the pool in recent betting odds as the favorite to take home the award at the end of this season, trailed distantly by Los Angeles Clippers guard Norman Powell.

Across this final stretch of the NBA season, expect Monk to continue producing some high-level performances en route to a very convincing case as the league's most impactful bench player.
