Lakers Officially Waive Big Man in Surprise Roster Move

In this story:
The Los Angeles Lakers waived big man Trey Jemison III as the team frees up a spot on the roster.
He occupied the team's third two-way contract spot, which should make room for another player to join the team on that contract.
The Lakers already made two signings on Monday, adding two players on two-way contracts.
Center Christian Koloko was handed a two-way deal, along with forward Chris Manon, who played on the Golden State Warriors Summer League team.

Jemison signed onto the Lakers back in January, netting a two-year deal, though the franchise made the decision to move on from him over the offseason.
In his 22 appearances with the Lakers last season, he averaged 2.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per outing. Jemison plays the role of an energy big who aggressively attacks the boards and provides a role man for offensive creators.
He previously spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans, Washington Wizards, and the Memphis Grizzlies, but Jemison never got the chance to stick around at any team.

Jemison was one of many attempts by Los Angeles to solve its center woes, though he didn't make an impression on the front office.
The Lakers signed Deandre Ayton as the team's starting center and brought back Jaxson Hayes as the team's big man rotation. In reserve, Koloko lies waiting for an opportunity.
If he doesn't land an opportunity elsewhere, the Lakers could potentially bring Jemison back down the line.
