Lakers News: Magic Johnson Weighs In On Point Guard GOAT Chatter

The Los Angeles Lakers have a long list of great players to don the purple and gold, but none may be better, more charismatic, more showtimey than the one and only Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

Johnson is arguably not only the greatest Laker ever but the greatest basketball player of all time, and certainly the greatest at his position, the point guard position... of course, it depends on who you ask. Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry exploded onto the scene in 2009 and made his mark with the Warriors and in basketball lore. His skill set and shooting ability are genuinely one of one and are something we may never see again.

He's made his own case for being the GOAT of the point guard position, but if you ask the great Magic Johnson, he believes there is no debate, as he explained while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this week.

"I love Stephen Curry and his family, so I think he's right to be on any conversation of "the best of," but we all know who's one and who's two.

There's no denying the two changed the game, but strictly from a point guard standpoint, it's not close; Johnson is the greatest in that department. Through his illustrious 13-year career, Johnson stands as a five-time NBA champion, three-time MVP, three-timer finals MVP, 10-time All-NBA, four-time assist champion, 12-time All-Star, and a member of the 75th anniversary team.

Now, Curry's resume is also among the best this game has ever seen, but from the point guard position, it's Magic, and then it's the great baby-faced assassin.

After Magic's initial comment, he praised Curry and said the four-time champion still has a way to go to be considered the greatest.

"I love him, I love watching him play. Both of us did one thing: we both changed the way the game is played; that's the main thing. Laker fans, five NBA championships, three MVP, three Finals MVP, so you got to beat a long resume."

Curry is still playing elite basketball, but it will take a lot to dethrone the great Magic Johnson.
