Ever since Mikal Bridges got selected in the 2018 NBA Draft, he has been one of the league’s most reliable wing players. He is one of the most valuable players because elite two-way wings are hard to find to come by.

Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers sees the value of good wing players at an all-time high. He noted that OG Anunoby is a monumental addition to the New York Knicks because he provides elite defense alongside a reliable offensive game. Since Mikal fits the bill, his value to the Nets roster becomes even higher than before.

“A wing player like you take guys like Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby that were traded have a higher value than the public might think because you can fit them on any team,” Bob Myers said on The Woj Pod.

Mikal will be in Brooklyn for a long time

As Brooklyn’s top wing player, Mikal will likely be with the organization for the foreseeable future. The Nets are the first team where he’s a star rather than a high-level role player like he was with the Phoenix Suns.

Bridges’ contract will run through the 2025/26 season, a solid deal for the organization. With Cameron Thomas and Nic Claxton set to get contracts in the future, Mikal’s deal is team-friendly and will help with the cap space situation.

With Coach Jacque Vaughn signed until after the 2026/27 season, the Nets will likely lean on consistency to succeed. Brooklyn has a strong foundation with Mikal, as the team needs to keep developing by winning games.

Untouchable in trades

The Nets won’t trade Mikal anytime soon because they see him as untouchable. He is locked into his contract and is an organizational-wide favorite, especially in the front office.

Having a reliable wing goes a long way because elite guards and big men are easier to find nowadays. With more young talent coming up through the draft and an ever-changing trade market, the Nets can find ways to improve and build around Bridges.
