Experts: Nets won't make it to the 2024 Play-In Tournament

In this story:
Despite the lengthy hiatus that they enjoyed upon the All-Star break, the Brooklyn Nets will soon return to action embattled and pressured as they'll approach the remainder of the season with such urgency.
After bursting for a fast start, the Nets stumbled and have lost 18 of their last 24 games heading to the All-Star Weekend. They are now in serious danger of being excluded from contention as the East's 11th-seeded squad (21-33).
With their players finally rejuvenated and now healthy to perform, the Nets are keeping their optimism high about what lies ahead. But despite this, there is already a belief that they won't make it beyond the regular season.
Nets' Play-In Qualification: Denied
Answering the league's biggest questions heading into the second half of the season, one of the topics that were tackled by the New York Post's NBA writers is the Nets’ possibility of reaching the Play-In Tournament this season.
As such, the sportswriting trio of Stefan Bondy, Brian Lewis, and Mike Vaccaro all elected to answer that the Nets won't qualify for the contest, citing a lack of competitive fight as the general reason.
“Brooklyn dug itself too deep of a hole,” Lewis notes.
“Sure, 2 ½ games with 29 left isn’t insurmountable, but what have the Nets done to engender confidence they’re the team to do it?”
Can the Nets pull it off?
While they made a critical coaching move by dismissing Jacque Vaughn and promoting Kevin Ollie as the interim head coach, it is still yet to be seen if this would work perfectly as the Nets have their backs against the wall.
Ollie and the players will certainly adapt to the changes, but it won't be an easy task with 28 matches left, and the necessity to win matters as they are 2.5 games away from the last Play-In spot.
It will be interesting to see the Nets’ efforts to deliver a late-season push and make a successful turnaround to save their season.
