Harry Giles III defends Ben Simmons from critics

In this story:
Brooklyn is in the midst of a slump as they’re struggling without starting guard Ben Simmons. The Aussie guard has missed most of the season because of a nerve impingement in his lower back.
Ben’s constant injury issues have drawn criticism from both fans and pundits, doubting his ability to contribute and stay healthy. The criticism irked teammate Harry Giles III enough to address it in an interview. The 6’11” center gave Ben his props because he’s a vital player for the Nets.

“I don't think it's fair. If you haven't been through injuries, you can't judge. And I feel like if you're not an athlete and you don't play sports at a certain level… I don't think you can relate or speak on that topic,” Giles said on Hoop Chats with Emily Austin. “I know he loves the game, he's working, so he loves to do. But it's tough when you keep coming up short.”
Ben is working hard behind the scenes
Simmons has been dealing with plenty of injuries to his back over the past few years. This most recent injury has been a struggle because Ben played well to start the 2023/24 season. He spearheaded Jacque Vaughn's preferred fast-paced offense but then suffered the injury.
Thankfully, he has progressed well in his recovery, moving on to working with coaches and other players in 3-on-3 drills. Over the next few days, Ben will likely enter the last stage of his recovery and make his long-await return.
Simmons’ agent, Bernard Lee, gave plenty of details about his client’s injury while praising the Nets for the approach to Ben’s injury. Brooklyn knows Ben is a key player, and not rushing his recovery was a good decision.
1000 pct. The ultimate blessing in all this for Ben has been being on a team like Brooklyn during these freak injuries as they are so supportive and proactive of/w him in every way. Every organization preaches player 1st, Brooklyn lives it, even when things are hard. Cont’d https://t.co/D25LaA8uNq

Giles continues to prove why he’s a beloved locker-room figure
While he has not played many minutes this season, Giles has been lauded as one of the best people in the Nets locker room. He is always energetic because he uplifts the rest of the team. With how he protected Ben against harsh criticism, everyone can see how much he values his teammates.
Nets fans are hoping for Ben to return soon because he will be a massive contributor to their quest to nab a Playoff spot. It will be daunting, but getting Ben back will make that easier.
