Mikal Bridges Offers Insight on Brooklyn Nets' Offensive Challenges

The Nets got blown out by the 76ers, and star wing Mikal Bridges has given his say on the current situation.

Mikal Bridges consistently provides a candid evaluation following each Brooklyn Nets game, and the recent lopsided defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday was no exception.

Like head coach Jacque Vaughn, Bridges felt the Nets became too relaxed with their plays on both ends of the floor which Philly exploited.

The Villanova alum played a role in the unfortunate turn of events, showcasing a robust first half with 16 points on efficient scoring. However, he became nearly inconspicuous in the second half, adding just two more points to conclude the game with a total of 18. 

Mikal cited wanting to play more off the ball but the offense did not materialize for him during the final 24 minutes.

“Yeah, I think we just relaxed a little bit and with a team like this, you can’t. Just relaxed and not staying locked in at all times,” Bridges said in his post-game presser. “So, knowing that’s the NBA and a four-point lead, if you’re down four, down two, you can flip to 12 quick. So, attention to detail for the whole game.”

The team needs to be on the same page

In moments of offensive struggle for the Nets, it becomes apparent that they face challenges in cohesion. Frequently, players are not in sync, with one seeking aggression while another opts to take a more passive approach. Such disparities should be minimized, emphasizing the importance of unity, effective communication, and precise execution of plays.

The team is still missing Ben Simmons, their starting playmaker, and tempo-pusher. With his arrival, majority of these issues should be covered.

Although Spencer Dinwiddie has commendably directed operations alongside Nic Claxton, there are challenges in fully optimizing his teammates' potential on the court.

The Nets have sky-high potential when they play connected

The Nets' 6-7 record is one of the most deceiving tallies around the league because it doesn't sit well that this is under .500 team. They are talented in almost every position but they’ve struggled with their continuity with the injuries to starters like Ben Simmons and leading scorer Cameron Thomas.

Both of those starters are on track for a return soon which can solve the issues the Nets are having with their offense. Combining their skill sets with the resurgent Bridges and the explosive Lonnie Walker IV off the bench, the Nets can surprise teams with their potent offense.
