Former NBA guard Austin Rivers has been working as an analyst for ESPN this season, but he reportedly is attempting a comeback to the league. It was reported by Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report and NBA on TNT that Rivers hosted a workout in Miami that included 10-15 NBA teams.

In his 11 year NBA career, Rivers played for the New Orleans Pelicans, LA Clippers, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves. While Rivers didn’t become the star he was touted as in the NBA Draft, he did become a very solid player.

Peaking as a starter for the Clippers in 2017-18, Rivers averaged 15.1 PPG for LA that season. A very serviceable bench guard for several teams after that, Rivers brought a lot of value to each new stop he made before transitioning to an analyst.

Reportedly eyeing an NBA comeback, Rivers could be looking to join a team with championship aspirations, since he does have some extensive playoff experience on his resume. Having played 64 career playoff games, Rivers has been in some big moments, and could provide a team with some important veteran experience and leadership.

While it’s unknown which teams were in attendance for Rivers’ workout, there are teams around the league who could use some guard depth. Injuries often create needs that teams didn’t anticipate, so perhaps Rivers can indeed find his way back into the NBA this season.
