Pacers Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner named finalists for Conference Player of the Week in East

Mathurin and Turner have stepped up with Tyrese Haliburton out

Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner and guard Bennedict Mathuruin were named as nominees for Eastern Conference Player of the Week last week.

The honor was given to the player in each conference that put together the best performances in games between January 8 and 14. In the East, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo took home the hardware. The Heat went 3-1 during that stretch, and Adebayo averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds, and nearly six assists per game. In the West, Lauri Markkanen — who tore apart the Pacers last night — was the victor.

This is Turner's second-straight week being a nominee for the honor. He was also a finalist for the East's Player of the Month award in December. He's been playing well this season and keeps being mentioned as one of the better players in his conference.

The Pacers went 3-1 last week, and their starting center averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He had a terrific 18-point, 13-rebound outing against the Washington Wizards last Wednesday. It's his third nomination for the award this season.

For Mathurin, it's his first time being a finalist in 2023-24. Led by a 26-point outing in a win over Boston, the second-year guard averaged 17.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during the week. He has progressed nicely throughout the season and is averaging nearly 18 points per game since the calendar flipped to 2024.

Turner and Mathurin are the Pacers second and third-leading scorers, respectively, this season. It's no surprise they stepped up and put up better numbers when star guard Tyrese Haliburton went down with a hamstring injury. They will try to keep up their level this week with Indiana on the road.
