The San Antonio Spurs are saying goodbye to one of their two-way players.

According to ESPN reporter Andrew Lopez, the team is waiving Sir'Jabari Rice from his two-way contract to make room for new acquisition David Duke Jr.

Coach Gregg Popovich got to know Rice better as training camp and preseason have continued on, though it took him a second to figure out who the rookie guard was in the first place.

Following a preseason game against the Houston Rockets, Pop knew very much who Rice was and praised his progress through training camp.

"He's a clever, clever guy," Popovich said during the preseason via KENS5 reporter Nate Ryan. "I didn't know who the hell he was when camp came. I said 'Who's that kid there?' when they were coming and working out and getting ready for training camp. But he's got a nice shot, he's got good speed, great personality about him. He's been enjoyable."

Rice went to college down the road at the University of Texas, so he didn't have to travel too far to play in his first professional spot. There's always potential for Rice to re-join the Spurs, or any other team in the NBA for that matter, but for now, it appears the door is closed.

The Spurs are back in action tomorrow night against the Los Angeles Lakers, where they will look to snap a franchise-record 18-game losing streak. Tipoff on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
