One NBA Analyst Suggests the Suns Sign Former No. 2 Pick

Jabari Parker is a free agent, and one analyst believes the Suns should kick the tires on 2014's No. 2 overall selection.

Sometimes all you need is opportunity, and the Phoenix Suns might be a fit for a player many believed to be one of the best in his draft class.

Former No. 2 overall pick Jabari Parker has transitioned to a journeyman role in the NBA after spending his first few years in the league with the Milwaukee Bucks, most recently featuring for the Boston Celtics. He's played just 25 games the last two seasons.

Fastbreak's Ben Stinar believes the Suns should open their doors for Parker's next stop, offering the following on why Phoenix is ideal:

Should the Phoenix Suns Sign Jabari Parker?

"The Suns made the NBA Finals in 2021, and this past season they had the best record in the entire NBA during the regular season. They are very much a contender to win the NBA Championship in 2023, and teams like that always need to find good veterans during the summer that can help them in the NBA Playoffs," said Stinar.

"Parker is the kind of player that can be signed for a minimum deal (more than likely), and is still just 27-years-old.

"At one point, he was seen as a future superstar. In his third season, he averaged over 20 points per game for the Bucks. However, the injuries slowed him down, and he has been a journeyman during his career.

"Even so, he still has career averages of 14.1 points per game, and can be relied upon as a player who can put the ball in the basket. With outstanding guard play from Devin Booker and Chris Paul, Parker could be a good option off the bench that they could make even better."

Parker was successful during his days at Duke and projected to be a skillful wing player coming out of college, but could not catch his footing after suffering an ACL tear during his rookie season against Phoenix in December.

If the Suns truly wanted to pursue Parker, he'd likely come on a minimum cost similar to his last two deals with the Celtics. Phoenix currently has six forwards on the books for next season.
