Cameron Johnson Not Sweating Contract Negotiations

Phoenix Suns PF Cameron Johnson has a lot on his plate, but he's not worried about the business side of basketball.

Phoenix Suns PF Cameron Johnson has quite the load to carry.

Nevermind dealing with the Jae Crowder drama, which has essentially been the cherry on top of a chaotic offseason in Phoenix.

Johnson became eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and was secretly expected to emerge as a starter regardless of Crowder's presence on the team.

Johnson, who has seemingly improved each year during his short stay in the league, is about to receive life changing money for him and his family.

While the negotiations continue between his and Phoenix's representatives, Johnson said it hasn't occupied serious real estate in his head:

"I didn't obsess over it in the first place," Johnson said on Media Day.

"With things like this, I feel like if you obsess over it and get yourself all wrapped up in it — it's only detrimental. I feel like the process will play out as it will and as it is supposed to. It's the reason you have agents, to help you negotiate these things. I love being here. I love playing in this city. It has been great to me."

The city (and team) loves Johnson, too. That's why they're ready to hand him the keys to the starting role at power forward and hope more opportunity leads to more growth.

Johnson has played a pivotal role coming off the bench for the Suns in previous seasons, helping Phoenix reach heights such as the NBA Finals and setting a franchise mark in regular season wins.

"I love what we have been able to accomplish as a team," Johnson said. "I'm looking forward to continuing that. The way that it stands, I have a year left on my contract, and that is the year I am playing right now. I am super excited to be here. I am super excited for the opportunity. I love this team, I love our guys, and I'm ready to start training camp and get back to work."

Nobody knows what to expect out of Johnson's pending deal, although we took our best stab at it earlier this summer.

Johnson, taking it one day at a time, isn't letting anything get in the way of an important season for him and his teammates.
