Former Suns Guard Mike James Tells Revealing Kevin Durant Story

Former Suns guard Mike James said Durant knew the Nets weren't going to go far in the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

The Phoenix Suns are still in pursuit of Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant, along with many other teams in the league.

The debate surrounding Durant and whether or not the Nets will trade him has been a pivotal talking point as talks have cooled in Brooklyn. Many believe Durant won't be moved when training camp rolls around.

Talk has filled headlines for weeks about Brooklyn and their intentions with Durant, but there's been little on the player side of things. KD has been quiet since reports leaked of him requesting a trade. We only know Durant initially had his sights set on Phoenix or Miami. Aside from that, the overall atmosphere surrounding him remains cloudy.

Durant knows that too, as his sparing presence on social media (and creation of a tiktok account) is still fairly active. Yet nothing has really been revealed to further form the narrative of why he wants out, or when he made up his mind.

Former Suns guard Mike James may have helped mold a more formidable timeline after his appearance on the Players Choice podcast.

James played a total of 32 games in Phoenix following his appearance in the 2017 NBA Summer League for the Suns. He's spent most of his career overseas, which is where he was last season as well when he suited up for AS Monaco.

James was asked about Durant (he spent time with Brooklyn towards the end of the 2021 regular season), and he offered this to say (video attached to the tweet):

Durant had essentially admitted the Nets' defeat before it actually happened.

Some fans (and even Players Choice themselves) tried to defend Durant, saying the series was essentially over when Durant said this.

However, the Euro League playoffs began right around the beginning of the Boston series for the Nets.

Perhaps Durant wanted out long before his actual trade request at the beginning of free agency.
