On Monday, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams had won the NBA's Coach of the Year award for the 2021-22 season.

In April, Williams was also awarded the Michael H. Goldberg NBCA Coach of the Year Award, voted on by his peers from the National Basketball Coaches Association.

Williams took home NBCA honors for the second year in a row, but this is his first time claiming the NBA's official Coach of the Year award.

Williams initially took over for the Suns in 2019, steadily improving and growing Phoenix with each season at the helm. His coaching career first began in 2005 as an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers after playing ten years in the league as a small forward.

After nearly winning the NBA Finals last season, Phoenix managed to improve on their regular season prowess by reaching new heights in 2022.

The Suns were the first team to clinch a playoff birth this year with an overall record of 53-13. Phoenix also finished the season by establishing a new  franchise record for wins in the regular season with 64 wins.

At the moment, the Suns are currently locked into a heated battle with the Dallas Mavericks, fighting for the opportunity to play in the Western Conference Finals.

Guard Devin Booker may already be planning something after breaking the news to the Twitter world himself.

The award is well deserved for Williams, as he has played a major role in revitalizing the Suns and Phoenix's overall basketball scene.
