Game 2 Preview
The Phoenix Suns hope to bounce back from their 125-107 opening loss to the Denver Nuggets over the weekend.
If the Nuggets shoot like they did previously, it will be awfully tough for Phoenix to escape Denver with a win before heading back home for Games 3 and 4. Denver had six players score in double figures and shot an impressive 16-37 (43.2%) from three-point land. The Nuggets also won the rebound battle 49-38.
Phoenix trailed by as much as 23 in their loss, losing control midway through the second quarter.
"I thought that they were just more physical, played with more force, especially in the second quarter, that’s when we kind of lost some momentum. The difference is in possessions, turnovers, and offensive rebounds. They just destroyed us tonight," Suns coach Monty Williams said following the loss.
"We have to regroup and do a much better job at playing with pace on offense. I thought we slowed down tonight for whatever reason. Their pressure or take the ball out of the net, we didn’t play with the pace that we are accustomed to, especially in the second quarter when we slipped.”
With such a large break from Game 2 to Game 3 (which is on Friday), starters in Chris Paul, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker are expected to play hefty minutes tonight. The duo of Durant/Booker combined for 56 points last time out, but the Suns failed to get any significant contributions elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the Nuggets saw three players in Aaron Gordon (23), Nikola Jokic (24) and Jamal Murray (34) score over 20 points.
Jokic also poured in 19 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive end.
