Draymond Green's Statement on Victor Wembanyama After Warriors vs. Spurs

The Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs

The Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, but star rookie Victor Wembanyama was fantastic. Finishing with 32 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks, Wembanyama became the first rookie in NBA history to post that line in a game.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Warriors forward Draymond Green was asked about Wembanyama and said,“I thought I had a great box-out and he still didn’t let me get the rebound. He’s a very special talent. I was just telling Trayce [Jackson-Davis] and those guys that I’m happy I got the opportunity to play against him now because they’ll have to deal with him a lot later and I won’t be in the league anymore, so that’s good for me.”

One of the greatest defenders in NBA history, Green can certainly get it done on defense, but he is happy he will not have to deal with Wembanyama for too many years. Green was fantastic in this game against the Spurs, finishing with 21 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, and six steals.

While the Spurs have one of the worst records in basketball, they have been playing much better as of late, which made this a solid win for the Warriors.  Golden State is trying to hold onto the 10th seed, with the 11th seed Houston Rockets remaining in pursuit of that spot. The Warriors also have their sights still set on potentially running down the Lakers for 9th, or maybe even a team like Sacramento or Phoenix for 8th, but that would be much less likely.

This win over the Spurs was a solid one, especially when considering the performance that Wembanyama was able to turn in.
