Warriors Share Injury Update on Key Player

One player will be re-evaluated next week.

Without Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors have been sorely missing the defense of Gary Payton II. He's been out since November, but now the team has fortunately put out an update on his injury.

The update reads as follows:

"Guard Gary Payton II, who suffered a right calf strain on November 28 at Sacramento and has missed the last nine (9) games, was recently re-evaluated. The re-evaluation indicated that he is making good progress and, as a result, has been cleared to begin participating in various parts of team practice. He will be re-evaluated again early next week."

For now, the Golden State Warriors have figured out how to win without both Gary Payton II and Draymond Green. At some point though, players will get physically tired from doing all of the defensive work that those two do. Before that happens, it's best to get Gary Payton II back as soon as possible.

This season in 14 games, Gary Payton II averaged 5.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals on 48/32/67 shooting. Similar to many other glue guys in the league, his contributions go far beyond numbers. It's about being a connector of the defensive end that elevates everyone else's defensive game. The little things that make life easier for everyone else on the court.

Up next for the Golden State Warriors, is the Washington Wizards on Friday at 10:00 p.m. EST.
