Steve Kerr Reveals Reason for Controversial Decision vs. Thunder

In this story:
The Golden State Warriors lost their 6th-straight game on Saturday night, falling to the OKC Thunder in overtime. The game went to overtime after Thunder big man Chet Holmgren hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to counter the three-pointer Andrew Wiggins hit at the other end.
With 1.6 seconds remaining, the Warriors opted not to foul before OKC could attempt a three, and the decision backfired with Holmgren hitting a tough shot. Steve Kerr was asked after the game about this controversial decision, and said the Warriors only wanted to foul if they could get a clean foul, since officials often incorrectly award three free throws in that spot even if the foul occurs prior to the shooting motion.

While Kerr is right about this, and Holmgren hit an amazing shot, it does look like the there was a split second on the initial catch when Wiggins could have wrapped him up. That said, this is much easier to determine on a slow motion replay than in real time, so it's understandable why Wiggins did not foul Holmgren, considering the Thunder big man turned and shot almost instantly after receiving the inbound pass.
Had Holmgren missed that tough three at the buzzer, the Warriors would have snapped their losing streak and nobody would question the decision not to foul. Unfortunately for the Warriors that's not how it went down, as Golden State dropped their 6th in a row
