Surprising Update on Warriors' Trade Deadline Plans Revealed

The Golden State Warriors may not be making a blockbuster trade

The Golden State Warriors are far from title contenders as currently constructed. Sitting at 19-24 on the season, Golden State is 2.5 games back of a play-in spot, and six games back of a playoff spot.

Still with Steph Curry on their roster, the Warriors are in no position to bottom out and abandon their pursuit of another title, but that pursuit becomes more unrealistic with each loss that pushes Golden State further down the standings. This dynamic has led many to believe the Warriors would make a big swing at the trade deadline in order to turn this season around and make one last push to win with Curry, but a new report indicates such a deal may be growing less likely.

In a recent article, Anthony Slater of The Athletic detailed Golden State's current situation, and how Pascal Siakam landing with the Indiana Pacers pushed the Warriors further into an unclear path forward.

"This only further shoved the Warriors into what appears to be a trade deadline trap of circumstance without a clear path for upward or downward mobility," Slater wrote after breaking down the Siakam situation. "They’re in NBA no-man’s-land. The odds and internal expectations of a trade that meaningfully moves the needle has steadily decreased over the last month, team sources not authorized to speak publicly tell The Athletic."

While this is a surprising update after so much noise about Golden State's expected trade deadline aggression, it's the unfortunate reality for a team that attempted to pull off the nearly impossible task of competing for a championship while positioning for the future.
