Kevin Durant Reacts to Shohei Ohtani Comparisons

In this story:
Two-way MLB sensation Shohei Ohtani agreed to a record setting 10-year / $700M contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, which had the sports world buzzing. With the Dodgers having two other superstars in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, some have compared this move to Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors.
While the two situations are of course different, as there is no real NBA comparison for Ohtani, there are some parallels with the biggest free agent on the market joining a team with an abundance of talent. For Durant, he has seen that comparison being made, and shared his reaction on X (formerly known as Twitter):
You don’t have to hate cuz u see everybody else doing it
— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) December 10, 2023
Durant has been responding to messages like these for years, with fans calling out his move to the Warriors on a regular basis. While Ohtani is not as active on social media as Durant is, it seems he will also have to deal with some of this after his move to the Dodgers.
As previously mentioned, there is no NBA comparison for Ohtani, but there is also no MLB comparison for that 2017 Warriors team. Arguably the most dominant team in NBA history, the 2017 Warriors were unstoppable as long as they stayed healthy. While the Dodgers may be the favorites for next season, baseball is a different game, as talent on paper does not always translate to playoff success - as the Dodgers learned in October.
