NBA Explains Controversial Call in Warriors vs. Thunder Game

With 1:26 remaining in the 4th quarter of Saturday night's game between the Golden State Warriors and OKC Thunder, Andrew Wiggins was called for a controversial foul against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. While replay shows Gilgeous-Alexander extending his leg into Wiggins, the NBA's Last Two Minute Report says Wiggins was rightfully called for a foul.

The official explanation from the NBA stated, "Replay review of the foul called on Wiggins (GSW) pursuant to a coach's challenge was deemed unsuccessful. Wiggins is moving towards Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC) when illegal contact occurs, which is before he makes contact with the ball."

The Warriors were very unhappy with this call, and it's been a controversial one online since the game ended. While Gilgeous-Alexander definitely extends his leg into Wiggins, the league stated that Wiggins was "moving towards" the Thunder star when illegal contact occurred, which happened prior to Wiggins blocking the shot.

This call occurred in the final two minutes of regulation, and the game ended up going to overtime where the Warriors lost. There was only one missed call listed on the Last Two Minute Report, and it came with 1:43 remaining in regulation when Kevon Looney fouled Gilgeous-Alexander on a jump-shot, but no foul was called.

There was certainly some controversy down the stretch of this one, but ultimately Golden State did not execute well enough in the 4th quarter or OT.
