NBA Insider Reveals Contract Extension Update for Warriors Star

While Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson has yet to reach a contract extension, the idea that he and the Warriors have yet to discuss one is reportedly false. During a recent appearance on the The Lowe Post podcast, NBA insider Ramona Shelburne revealed that Thompson and the Warriors have started talking.

"My understanding is that they have opened contract extension talks with Klay Thompson," Shelburne said. "This is a slow process. This idea that he's been eligible for awhile and they haven't done anything... no, they've started talking. They've exchanged proposals. There's no hurry to these discussions. The optionality goes both ways."

While Shelburne revealed the update that Thompson and the Warriors have exchanged propsals, she added that neither side is in a rush. This makes sense, because the Warriors need to see where they're going to be financially, and Thompson could use this season to earn a higher pay day.

Having been integral to Golden State's dynasty, Thompson does not need to prove his worth to the Warriors, but he could certainly benefit from a solid season. This is something Shelburne alluded to, because some of Thompson's struggles last season - especially in the playoffs, could make a team hesitant to offer him major money for multiple years.

As of right now, it seems there is certainly mutual interest between Thompson and the Warriors to continue their partnership beyond this season, but neither side is in a rush to lock something down.
