The Wizards Have A Joel Embiid Problem

Some NBA players just play well against certain teams. In this situation, the reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid recently owned the Washington Wizards. Last Night we saw Embiid go for 50 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists leading the Sixers to their third straight win over the Wizards and their ninth win in the last twelve games dating back to 2019. Embiid's overall record against the Wizards in his career is 13-7. In his career, Embiid is averaging 30.4 points per game and 12.0 rebounds.

In the last four contests against the Wizards, Embiid has scored 48/34/48/50 and no Wizards player has come close to slowing him down. Daniel Gafford did the best he could last night to slow down Embiid but would foul out late in the fourth. Embiid’s teammate Marcus Morris had this to say today about Embiid after last night's performance:

“He actually puts his body on the line every night flying and trying to get blocks, rebounds…I take my hat off to him, but he’s definitely the best player that I’ve been around.”

I'm not sure if the Wizards will be able to contain Embiid anytime soon. I think the only thing they’ll be able to do to slow him down is to stop everybody else who’s on the floor because stopping him seems to be impossible for the Wizards.
