The Wizards Have Finally Unleashed Tyus Jones

Wizards Finally Allowed Tyus Jones To Be Himself

This offseason, the Wizards finally were able to acquire the point guard of the foreseeable future, Tyus Jones. It’s no secret the Washington Wizards have had a point guard problem ever since the injuries John Wall suffered. He was “The Guy” for the Wizards and the point guard position has been shaky ever since he stopped running the show.

The acquisition of Tyus Jones was a huge one both for the Wizards and Jones himself. Tyus Jones spent a lot of time being a backup and thriving as he filled in as a spot starter. He specifically thrived playing behind Ja Morant last season. This was a win-win situation for both sides as Tyus Jones finally gets the opportunity he has been waiting on forever, becoming a full time starter. The Wizards get to have a guy who is hungry and desires to strive for excellence into their starting lineup at the point guard position. Tyus Jones has something to prove and maybe even with a chip on his shoulder.

Last night, the Wizards got their most impressive win of the season as they defeated Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers 137-123. Haliburton is one of the league’s best players as he dropped 19 points and 11 assists last night. Tyus Jones may not have outplayed Tyrese Haliburton last night, but he certainly outworked him as he posted a triple double (13 Points, 11 Assist, and 10 Rebounds.

The Wizards have had many struggles this season incorporating Tyus Jones into the offense. He has been used almost as a spot up shooter as Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole has been controlling the ball within the offense this season. But we have seen how to get Tyus Jones to be effective into the offense - you have to give him the ball and allow him to create. He was able to do so in this game as he did a little bit of everything. If the Wizards can continue to give him a larger role to create offense for the team, the Wizards will certainly win more games.
