Washington Wizards Labeled as 'Incomprehensibly Bad' in New Power Rankings

New NBA power rankings by The Athletic has a bottom tier that includes the Washington Wizards.

It has been a rough start for the Washington Wizards, even worse then some expected.

Because of how bad the Wizards have looked at times this year they are often catching heat from national and local media alike.

In The Athletic's new weekly power rankings by Zach Harper he has created a new tier below his normal 'Not tanking but maybe someday' tier to describe the NBA's worse teams.

The new tier is categorized as 'Incomprehensibly bad'.

This tier includes three teams, the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and last but not least Washington.

The good news is that the Wizards are ranked 28th and ahead of both the Pistons and Spurs.

So at least they aren't last, if that matters.

Harper used quarter-by-quarter breakdowns this week to show if teams are struggling all the time or just at certain points of the game.

He notes how terrible Washington has been in the clutch, which has been historically bad for them.

The Wizards aren't necessarily awful in just one quarter of games though, it seems they like to change up what quarter they're bad in every game.

"I'm honestly shocked their numbers in each quarter aren't worse," Harper said. "I can't think of a time in a Wizards game which I get the feeling, 'You know what? They're starting to bring it'."

Washington's play has been really poor at times so it is a little surprising when you see the numbers aren't as bad as the eye test.

Which is a credit to certain guys not giving up and bringing it every night no matter the situation.

There have been times where the Wizards have shown flashes of what could be especially from some of the younger players.

Washington's goal is to improve, even if it doesn't translate to wins, and quarter-by-quarter numbers may be good numbers to track as they grow.
