The End Of An Era: Wizards Send NBA All Star Bradley Beal To Phoenix

In this story:
There are some things in life you think you may never see. The Wizards trading Bradley Beal may have been one of them. This is a lesson learned in the advice to never say never as the Wizards new executive team makes its first big move by trading the three time NBA All Star to the Phoenix Suns days before the 2023 NBA Draft.
BREAKING: The Washington Wizards are trading three-time All-Star Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, a handful of second-round picks, and multiple pick swaps, league sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.

Just last summer, the Washington Wizards announced that they had re-signed Beal.
"Bradley has truly established himself among his peers in the NBA, the all time greats in our team's history, and the leaders who are making a difference in the community over his 10 years with us," said Chairman and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment Ted Leonsis at last year’s press conference showcasing Beal as the Wizards franchise leader. “He has set a consistent example of hard work and dedication to develop into our franchise player and we are proud to show our commitment to having him continue to lead us on and off the court as he cements his legacy in Washington.”
As a Washington Wizard, Bradley Beal has solidified himself as a fan favorite and in the franchise’s history books. Now he heads to Phoenix to join fellow NBA All Stars Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. Beal’s no trade clause provided him with the opportunity to choose his next destination.
A league source has told @TheAthleticNBA that Wizards officials would like to have Chris Paul on their team. But if Paul decides in the next few days he would like to be on a contender, the Wizards would work w/ the Suns to find a 3rd team in the trade to send CP3 to a contender.

Questions still loom about the next moves the Wizards will make in coming days. Inside the Wizards Staff Writer, Carita Parks captured this moment at the most recent Wizards press conference introducing Michael Winger and Will Dawkins.
In light of Bradley Beal’s pending trade, Michael Winger said at his intro press conference: “We have full authority to reset the roster if that’s what we decide to do.”

He also discussed the future of Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma which will be the next big decisions. pic.twitter.com/SFgt2sm5kG
Wizards Guard Jordan Goodwin is also likely to be included in the trade. Goodwin and Beal have history dating back to Goodwin playing for Beal's youth basketball team Bradley Beal Elite.
Guard Jordan Goodwin has been told he’s likely being included in the Wizards-Suns trade, a league source told @TheAthleticNBA. Goodwin, 24, appeared in 62 games for Washington last season & would give PHX a player with a strong feel for the game who is on an inexpensive contract.
