Maurkice Pouncey says he regretted making 'light of that serious situation.'

The Pittsburgh Steelersreportedly planned to chat with center Maurkice Pouncey after he and his brother, the Dolphins' Mike Pouncey, were snapped this weekend sporting matching "Free Hernandez" hats -- a reference to the current legal situation surrounding Aaron Hernandez, who played with the Pouncey brothers at Florida.

Perhaps not surprisingly, then, Maurkice issued an apology Monday via Twitter for that apparel choice:

"I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate," Pouncey wrote, "and I regret that my actions appear to make light of that serious situation. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions."

We've yet to hear from Mike Pouncey yet, but there's a good chance he will follow his twin brother's footsteps and offer up some remorse, too. Here's the photo of the Pouncey brothers that surfaced on Sunday morning:

It was a weekend full of regrettable moments for NFL players. Both Victor Cruz and Roddy White already issued their own apologies for their reactions on Twitter to the George Zimmerman trial verdict.
