Jadeveon Clowney injury: No. 1 draft pick undergoes surgery for sports hernia

On Friday, the Texans revealed that the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft has suffered a bit of a setback in his transition to the NFL. Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney underwent sports hernia surgery on Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle, and it's anticipated that he will be out until the start of training camp.

No matter how talented a prospect may be, this is not news you want to hear about any rookie. This time missed, which will include the team's mandatory minicamp next week, will do Clowney no favors as he continues to transition from defensive end to a hybrid outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel's 3-4 scheme.

Instead of dealing the top overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft like some assumed they would, the Houston Texans decided to go the obvious route and select one of the best defensive players to come out of college in years in Clowney.
