Cowboys' Scandrick suspended four games for drug violation

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday night cornerback Orlando Scandrick has been suspended four games for violating a league drug policy.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday night cornerback Orlando Scandrick has been suspended four games for violating a league drug policy. 

Scandrick "took something in Mexico" while on vacation, which led to him failing a drug test, according to Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer. Glazer also said Scandrick understands he violated the league's substance abuse policy and is taking responsibility for his actions.

Scandrick had appealed the suspension and lost.

The 27-year-old Scandrick recently signed a two-year extension through the 2015 season that guarantees him $4.5 million in 2014. 

He has played his entire six-year career with the Cowboys. He started 15 games during the 2013 season, posting 59 tackles and two interceptions. The Boise State product will be eligible to return to action during the team's Week 5 game at home against the Houston Texans.
