Saturday August 16th, 2014

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson won't play in the team's second preseason game — in Oakland on Friday night — the team announced in its pregame inactive report.

Johnson is coming off knee and finger surgeries this offseason and has yet to play in the preseason.

The 28-year-old, who is a four-time Pro Bowler, had 1,000-yard receiving seasons five of the last six years and led the league in receiving in 2011 and 2012. Last year, he caught 84 passes for 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games.

Johnson has missed only six regular-season games in seven seasons.

The Lions are expected to play their starters about one quarter in Friday's game.
