Rams running back Isaiah Pead suffered a non-contact leg injury while returning a kick in Saturday's preseason game against the Packers in St. Louis, according to NFL.com's Kevin Patra.

Writes Patra: "... Pead was streaking down the field ... when he spilled to the ground untouched."

Pead, who had his knee bend awkwardly when he planted his left foot, was helped off the field by trainers and carted to the locker room, Patra reports. The 24-year-old, who was a second-round pick out of Cincinnati in 2012, was battling with rookie Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham for the team's backup running back spot behind Zac Stacy.

Pead had 21 rushing yards, 78 receiving yards and 138 yards on five kick returns in 10 games last season.
