Niners wide receiver Michael Crabtree has an "unknown status" for San Francisco's regular-season opener in Dallas vs. the Cowboys, according to a report Wednesday night from Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

Crabtree, who turns 27 in about a week, was held out of practice on Wednesday with a calf injury. It's his second injury of training camp, as he missed more than two weeks this summer with a hamstring injury. He also missed most of 2013 with a torn Achilles.

The Niners also made headlines on Wednesday after it was revealed by the San Jose Police Department that the domestic violence case involving San Francisco defensive end Ray McDonaldhas not been handed over to the district attorney yet. McDonald was arrested over the weekend amid charges that he assaulted a woman who is reportedly pregnant.

Regarding Crabtree, more should be known on Thursday when the team practices again.
