San Diego Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett aggravated a shoulder injury in Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos, the team said.

He was declared questionable to return to action on Thursday, but he never got back into the game. He returned to the sideline in street clothes and with his left arm in a sling.

Verrett wasn't certain to even play Thursday night, but the Chargers activated him for their important contest against the Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning. Verrett, a first-round pick out of TCU, has impressed the Chargers in his rookie season. He has 18 tackles and one interception so far this season.

The Chargers were already without top cornerback Brandon Flowers, who was out due to a concussion. Manning ended up passing for 286 yards and three touchdowns in the Broncos' 35-21 win.
