The New Orleans Saints have placed WR Brandin Cooks on injured reserve with a wrist injury, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

Cooks was injured in the Saints' 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. It hasn't been confirmed exactly when or how Cooks was hurt. On Monday, his agent, Jeff Sperbeck, said that Cooks underwent successful surgery to repair a broken thumb and would be out four-to-six weeks.

Cooks caught five passes for 50 yards and also ran once for five yards in the loss. For the season, he has 53 receptions for 550 yards and three touchdowns, all good for second-most on the Saints behind tight end Jimmy Graham. Cooks also rushed seven times for 73 yards and one touchdown on top of his return duties, which saw him take back 10 punts for 35 yards and one kickoff for 12 yards.

BANKS: No winners in sight with NFL's latest suspension

Cooks was New Orleans' first-round pick out of Oregon State in the 2014 draft. Without him, Marques Colston and Kenny Stills will likely see more targets at wide receiver.

The Saints are 4-6, but still tied with the Atlanta Falcons for first place in the NFC South. New Orleans plays the Baltimore Ravens (6-4) next on Monday Night Football.
