Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan says the team will look at all options to address their quarterback situation.

Ryan said that is too early to tell if EJ Manuel will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward.

Manuel was benched after the first month of the season in favor of Kyle Orton. Orton started the final 12 games of last season, going 7-5. He retired at age 32 after the season.

"Will we explore possible veteran free agents or draft picks out there? Absolutely," Ryan said to Fox Sports. "We're going to explore everything to add competition because that makes your whole team better."

Ryan had no such worries about his returning defense, a unit that ranked fourth in the NFL in total defense and gave up 18.1 points a game last season.

"I’ve been a fan of Kyle Williams, Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus," Ryan said. "That front is loaded. But I don't think the back end gets enough credit as it probably should. They get their hands on you and are a physical group."

He also said he looking forward to getting Kiko Alonso back in the mix. Alonso, who finished second in the 2013 NFL defensive rookie of the year voting, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while working out last summer.
