Former Raiders head coach Dennis Allen and former Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland are joining the Saints, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Allen, who was fired after four games this season, will join Sean Payton's coaching staff "in a senior defensive role," according to Schefter. He will work with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who will return next season after the team finished No. 28 in scoring defense and No. 31 in yards allowed.

Allen went 8-28 in three seasons with the Raiders, finishing 4-12 in each of his two full seasons. He previously worked for the Saints from 2006 through 2010, starting as an assistant defensive line coach and finishing as a secondary coach.

Ireland spoke with Fox Sports’ Alex Marvez, telling him that he hasn’t been hired by the team yet, but did speak with them and is interested in joining the franchise.

Ireland, who was Miami's general manager for six seasons through 2013, spent this season with the Seahawks as a consultant. Schefter reports that Ireland will be a college scout for the Saints.

The Saints finished 7-9, missing the playoffs despite leading the league in yards gained.
