Johnson, 41, joins new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, who was hired earlier this month after three seasons as defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. Prior to being assistant offensive line coach for Detroit this past season, Johnson coached the Lions’ tight ends in 2013.
Before that, Johnson was an assistant at his alma mater, Miami (Ohio), for six seasons, first as tight ends coach before adding responsibilities of tackles and co-special teams coach. In his final season, he solely coached the offensive line.
Johnson was defensive line coach at Akron from 1997-98 after being a graduate assistant in the program for two seasons.
An Akron native, Johnson played offensive tackle at Miami (Ohio) from 1992-94. The Raiders had a 3-13 record this season and fired former coach Dennis Allen in September after an 0-4 start.
