Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll praised running back Marshawn Lynch for staying true to himself during his Media Day session, where Lynch refused to give answers to reporters’ questions.

Lynch spent less than five minutes at the podium during his media availability and answered each question he was asked, "I'm just here so I won't be fined.”

The NFL has fined Lynch $100,000 for refusing to speak to the media after games.

"You are seeing demonstration of guy being himself and not who people want him to be. He's true to himself,” Carroll said, according to the Denver Post.

Lynch continued using a stock answer with the media on Wednesday, repeating the phrase,  "You know why I am here." He ended his session by saying  "Thank you, I appreciate it.”

Carroll told the New York Times that he appreciates the uniqueness of his players, calling Lynch a "treasure."

“I don’t think he’s being misunderstood,” Carroll said of Lynch. “I think people are starting to learn about who he is and what he’s all about."
