The defending champion New England Patriots will not exercise their $20 million option on cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The 29-year-old Revis, who is a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro, will be on the market when free agency officially opens Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Revis and the Patriots will continue negotiations on a new contract, but that the New York Jets also have interest in bringing back their former star cornerback. Schefter also reported that the race for Revis' services is between the Patriots and Jets.
On Sunday, New England re-signed free safety Devin McCourty to a five-year, $47.5 million deal, with $28.5 million guaranteed.
