The Minnesota Vikings have signed veteran free-agent cornerback Terence Newman, the team announced on Friday.

Newman, 36, is entering his 13th season in the league. He was drafted in the first round by the Cowboys in 2003, and he played his first nine seasons in Dallas before playing the last three seasons with the Bengals.

In Newman's first four seasons with the Cowboys, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer served as defensive coordinator for the team. Zimmer also served the same role when Newman was with the Bengals before Zimmer was named Vikings coach.

Minnesota's passing defense ranked seventh in the league in yards allowed per game last season.

The two-time Pro Bowler recorded 48 tackles and one interception for the Bengals in 2014.
