Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says he is aiming for 2,500 rushing yards this season.

"I always keep the mark at twenty-five [2,500 yards], so if I get close to that, that's not bad," Peterson told the Vikings' website.

Peterson, who is preparing for his ninth NFL season, reported to Vikings training camp on Saturday to "MVP" chants.

Peterson only played in one game for the Vikings during the 2014-15 season after he was indicted on child abuse charges in Texas in September for allegedly hitting his 4-year-old son with a switch.

After the indictment, he was placed on the commissioner's exempt list. Peterson pleaded no contest to a count of misdemeanor reckless assault in November and was sentenced to probation, and subsequently NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him indefinitely.

Peterson, 30, was reinstated from the exempt list in April.

Peterson, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro selection, rushed for 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2013. The previous year, he rushed for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns.
