Redskins QB Robert Griffin III suffers concussion vs. Lions
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin IIIsustained a concussion and a stinger during Thursday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
The Redskins initially said Griffin was questionable to return before ruling him out for the game. Afterward, head coach Jay Gruden said Griffin was following concussion protocol and that his shoulder was “OK.”
Griffin took multiple hits during from Lions defenders during the first half at FedEx Field, eventually leaving at the 9:21 mark in the second quarter after a hit by Lions defensive end Corey Wootton. On a third and 16, Griffin fumbled while escaping pressure. The Lions recovered the ball after Wootten landed on Griffin, who remained on the ground for several minutes.

Before that play, the Lions sacked Griffin three times. The fourth-year quarterback was 2 of 5 for 8 yards before leaving the game.
The Lions led 10–0 after a 49-yard field goal by Matt Prader and a 3-yard touchdown pass from Dan Orlovsky to Jeremy Ross.
