Giants confirm safety Bennett Jackson has torn ACL, out for season

The New York Giantsconfirmed Sunday safety Bennett Jackson has a torn ACL and will be out for the season. 

Jackson hurt his knee Saturday in a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the same game, safety Justin Curriefractured his ankle, and he will also be out for the year, according to the New York Daily News's Ralph Vacchiano. 

The Giants have faced a plague of injuries at the safety position. Fifth-round pick Mykkele Thompson will miss the 2015 season as well with a torn Achilles. 

Safeties Landon Collins, Cooper Taylor and Nat Berhe have all missed time with various ailments. Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Sunday all three are expected to return to practice this week.

New York signed veteran safety Brandon Meriweather on Aug. 16 to compensate for the injuries. 

The Giants also announced Sunday linebacker Jon Beason has a sprained knee, suffered in Saturday's game.
