The Oakland Raiders plan to release or trade quarterback Christian Ponder on Saturday, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Ponder's departure would signal that Matt McGloin will assume backup quarterback duties behind Derek Carr.

In four preseason games for the Raiders, Ponder completed 22 of 35 passes for one touchdown and one interception.

Ponder spent the first four years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him No. 12 in 2011. Last season, Ponder appeared in two games for the Vikings after having started nine games for the team in 2013.

In his only full NFL season in 2012, Ponder threw for 2,935 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 62.1% of his passes.
