The Carolina Panthers have placed defensive end Charles Johnson on the injured reserve list with designation for return, after he sustained a hamstring injury on Sunday.

The 29-year-old was injured late in the third quarter of a 27–22 win over New Orleans.

Johnson will be eligible to begin practicing again on Nov. 10, and rejoin the roster on Nov. 24 before Carolina plays Dallas on Thanksgiving.

NFL teams are allowed to use the designation on one player per season. While under the tag, players do not count against the 53-man roster limit.

Johnson's roster spot is now occupied by defensive end Jared Allen, who Carolina acquired from Chicago in a trade on Monday.

In three games this season, Johnson collected five combined tackles and one sack for the 3–0 Panthers.
