The New England Patriots have reportedly signed running back Dion Lewis to a two-year contract extension.

The news was first reported by ESPN's Field Yates. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Lewis's deal is worth $3 million in base value and up to $5 million with incentives. He received a signing bonus worth $600,000, Yates added.

Lewis signed a one-year futures contract with New England in December and the fifth-year pro has been a pleasant surprise for the team, with a career-high 146 yards in three games and two touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry in a platoon with LeGarrette Blount. He's also caught 15 passes for 179 yards, helping to replace the departed Shane Vereen.

The Patriots are 3–0 and head to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Sunday.
