Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake is out for the season with a torn Achilles, the team announced.

Wake was carted off the field during the third quarter of the Miami's 36–7 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

After the game, coach Dan Campbell expressed concern about the possibility of losing Wake for an extended period.

“I would feel horrible, and I know his teammates would, too, if that’s the case,” Campbell said, according to ESPN. “If you lost a guy like Cam, it would hurt. Not only is he a leader, but he's a very productive player.”

The Dolphins leader in sacks, Wake added his seventh of the season by sacking Tom Brady in the first half of Thursday’s game. He has nine total tackles on the year with seven solo tackles and two assists.

In seven seasons with Miami, Wake has earned Pro Bowl honors four times and amassed 70 sacks and 209 tackles over a 100-game career.

The Dolphins (3–4) will next play the Buffalo Bills in Week 9.
