New York Jets running back Zac Stacy is out for the season after fracturing his ankle during Thursday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, the team announced Friday.

Stacy, 24, underwent surgery Friday morning.

In the final play of the first half, Stacy returned a kickoff for nine yards before he was tackled by Bills safety Jonathan Meeks as time expired. He was tended to on the field by team doctors following the play, and was taken back to the locker room on a cart.

Stacy had logged 89 yards on 31 carries with one touchdown in eight games this season, his first with the Jets after spending the first two years of his career with the St. Louis Rams.
