After Cam Newton cut his post-Super Bowl press conference short, former NFL linebacker Bill Romanowski criticized Newton on Twitter and called him “boy.”
Newton gave mostly one-word answers before walking off the stage after less than three minutes. Afterwards, Romanowski was quick to criticize Newton.
A few current and former NFL players responded to Romanowski’s use of the word “boy.”
NBA player Anthony Morrow also responded.
Romanowksi later clarified his remarks and eventually apologized.
Romanowski, 49, played for the 49ers, Eagles, Broncos and Raiders from 1988 to 2003. He won the Super Bowl four times and was named to the Pro Bowl twice. He was fined several times by the NFL during his career for on-field violence. He also ended a teammate’s career with a punch to the face during a training camp scrimmage. The teammate, ex-Raiders tight end Marcus Williams, received $340,000 in a settlement.
