The Miami Dolphins are expected to release cornerback Brent Grimes, reports The Sun-Sentinel’s Omar Kelly.
Grimes, 32, recorded 49 tackles and four interceptions this past season. The nine-year-veteran and four-time Pro Bowler spent six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before signing with the Dolphins in 2013.
According to the report, Miami was hoping to restructure Grimes’s four-year, $32 million contract that he signed in 2014, but the cornerback declined, wanting to look into free agency.
In cutting Grimes, the Dolphins would free up $6.5 million in salary cap space. The cornerback is due $8 million in compensation this year.
The Dolphins finished 6–10 in 2015.
